How to Prepare for Your First Recording Studio Session

Walking into a recording studio for the first time can feel intimidating. A little preparation goes a long way toward making the session smooth, productive, and — most importantly — fun.

Before You Arrive

Run through your material until it feels second nature. The more comfortable you are with the songs, the less time you'll spend re-learning parts in the booth and the more time you'll spend actually performing.

  • Rehearse with a metronome if your material is click-based
  • Bring your own instrument if you have one you're comfortable with
  • Stay hydrated and rest your voice the day before a vocal session
  • Bring reference tracks that capture the sound you're going for

What to Bring

Bring any instruments, cables, or gear you specifically want on the recording, plus a notebook for take notes. We provide the rest — mics, preamps, monitoring, and a comfortable space to work.

During the Session

Don't be afraid to ask for another take. A good take beats a fast one, and part of our job is making sure you leave with a recording you're proud of.
